Vancouver Riot : Kissing Couple
Yesterday I posted about the NHL 2011 Stanley Cup Champions, the Boston Bruins. The losing team, the Vancouver Canucks, had their fans furious.
Right after the loss in Game 7, fans of the Canucks in Vancouver launched a riot that needed the police to use tear gas to stop the violence that escalated. Fans set fire on cars, looted shops and shouted obscenities. There were also unconfirmed reports of men getting stabbed and other injuries. Hundreds of arrests and series of confrontations ended the said riot. But despite the ugly incident, there is a photo circling around social networking site, Facebook, of a couple that are kissing in the middle of the chaos. The couple is Mr. Alex Jones and Ms. Alex Thomas. It is reported that Ms. Thomas was knocked on the ground by a riot police and got disoriented. Mr. Jones tried to pacify her and gave her a kiss. At that moment, a photographer captured the incident and made it's way to Facebook via the father of Mr.Jones who shared the photo in his wall. An example of "Make Love not War.".

It’s scary and frightening how people can react when a team wins or loses a big game. It’s just sports! I hope every fan who caused all of that property damage is held civilly and criminally liable. The courts must send a message that violence can’t be tolerated.
