MANILA, Philippines – Pound-for-pound king and Filipino congressman Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao said he is ready for a possible mega-fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“Hindi naman tayo bobo na hindi natin makuha ‘yung plano n’ya,” Pacquiao said. “Ang kinuha n’yang kalaban ngayon ay si (Victor) Ortiz who is a southpaw. Ibig sabihin, nasa isip n’ya na pinaghahandaan ako na labanan.”
(I'm not dumb not to know his plans. He picked Ortiz who is a southpaw. That means he's preparing to fight me.)
Mayweather said Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila) that he “absolutely” wanted to fight Pacquiao.
“Malaki ang posibilidad na maglaban kami (There's a big possibility we're going to fight),” Pacquiao said.
Mayweather is set to fight the 24-year-old Ortiz on September 17, ending a 16-month layoff.
But Pacquiao added that they will set the conditions of the fight first.
ABS-CBN earlier confirmed with Pacquiao’s adviser, Michael Koncz, that Team Pacquiao was in discussions with Team Mayweather.
Pacquiao will fight Juan Manuel Marquez for the third time on November 12.
