LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Kobe Bryant isn't sure he'll be ready to play when the Los Angeles Lakers open the season on Oct. 29, although he remains ahead of schedule in rehabbing his surgically repaired Achilles' tendon.

USA Basketball is still waiting on official announcements from some NBA superstars whether they will play in the 2012 London Olympics, but the global stage and shoe endorsement responsibilities ultimately dictate their inevitable participation. Compared to the PBA selection, the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team was expected to be more competitive against Kobe Bryant and his band of basketball superstars. That proved to be true, although the Philippine team still fell short against the SMART All-Stars, 98-89.
