MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Freddie Roach lambasted the camp of Floyd Mayweather Jr. for using the term “little fella” in allusion to Manny Pacquiao.
“You can call Manny by his name, but don't call him the little man,” the boxing trainer said in Examiner.com.
Roach said that if Mayweather really wants the Pacquiao fight, he should issue the challenge directly to the Filipino champion.
"They tell me Mayweather's his own boss, and he calls all the shots, but why is Leonard Ellerbe making an announcement that he wants to fight us. Leonard Ellerbe is just one of his flunkies, let's face it, come on,” Roach said.
It was Ellerbe, Mayweather’s confidante, who first hinted that the unbeaten American boxer wanted to fight the Filipino champion.
He said Mayweather is challenging “the little fella.”
But Roach said Mayweather’s camp was being vague in their challenge.
Roach said Ellerbe may have been referring to another fighter.
“We don't know who you're referring to, because Manny will be a lot bigger than you when he's standing over you in the ring," said Roach.
