Boxing was the first featured martial art in the event |
The Adidas Budo Mart International, the martial arts division of Adidas International, will hold the competitions in cooperation with the Association for the Advancement of Karatedo (AAK).
There will be demonstrations and competitions in boxing (July 22), judo and jiu-jitsu (July 23), taekwondo (July 24), wrestling and wushu (July 29) and karate do (July 30 and 31).
The festival will be capped by a dinner to be hosted by Adidas Budo Mart International president Eric Siu and vice president Kei Yun Wong. The AAK is headed by Pocholo Veguillas.
"This is the first project of Adidas martial arts and, if successful, we will make this an annual event," said Richard Urn of the Adidas martial arts product line in the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at Shakey's United Nations Avenue on Tuesday.
"We can also turn this into an international event next year. So, we invite everyone to participate the watch. To the karatekas, we don't care which federation you're with," said Veguillas.
"We don't want to be part of it [controversy]. We just want to promote the sport," he added, referring to the recent leadership dispute within the Philippine Karatedo Federation.
