Arum wants Pacquiao match in September

It would be beneficial to everyone if Manny Pacquiao decides to sit it out until September.

That’s the sentiment of Top Rank chief Bob Arum, who is close to begging for Pacquiao to just use the long vacation to get himself examined by experts in Las Vegas.

The hiatus, according to Arum, will also be used by Top Rank to promote the proposed fifth fight between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Arum is eyeing a September 14 encounter between the two following the sudden ending to their fourth fight.

Pacquiao was winning and in control of the fight when a counter right hand by Marquez sent the Filipino to dreamland in the dying seconds of the sixth round of their 12-round welterweight contest.

Arum said a plan to have Pacquiao engage in a non-title tuneup fight in April doesn’t make sense.

“That’s unnecessary,” said Arum, referring to Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz’s desire to see Pacquiao in action in Asia.

Arum said Pacquiao can fly to the US after the May elections to have himself examined at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Brain Center in Las Vegas to make everyone satisfied.

Even though Pacquiao was cleared after a CT Scan after the fight and an MRI done in the Philippines turned out negative, Arum said it would be much better if Pacquiao gets examined by experts.
