Manny Pacquiao opponent could be known this week

Bob Arum is presiding over a press conference Monday (Tuesday in Manila) to formally announce the October 13 world super-bantamweight battle between Nonito Donaire and Japanese Toshiaki Nishioka in Los Angeles.

While the spotlight will fall on Donaire and Nishioka, most of the boxing writers in attendance won’t pass up the opportunity to ask the Top Rank chief about boxing’s most pressing question nowadays.

Since Arum was widely quoted last week that he will make public the details about Pacquiao’s much-awaited return fight on November 10, the fight community will be waiting for that to happen.

But will the 80-year-old New York-bred carnival barker fulfill his promise?

Since Monday is exclusively for the promotion of the October 13 Donaire-Nishioka bout, Arum might end up not answering questions related to Pacquiao.

And if fight fans expect it to happen on Tuesday, they have to remember as well as another Top Rank event will take place on that day: the open workout of Argentine Sergio Martinez.

Martinez is facing Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez on September 15.

However, it’ll be hard to rule out the possibility that Arum would finally provide more details about the Pacquiao fight during the Donaire-Nishioka news conference given the fact that Arum will be on hand.
