Source : AKTVThe Philippine Football Federation (PFF) aims to bring an annual international tournament in the country this October.
After the Azkals’ win over Guam Tuesday night at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City, team manager Dan Palami revealed that the PFF is keen on hosting the Long Teng Cup, which is held every year in Taiwan.
“If everything works according to plan, the PFF will be hosting the four-nation tourney in the first week of October,” Palami wrote on Twitter, referring to the tournament that includes the Philippines, Taiwan, Hongkong and Macau.
The Long Teng Cup was formed in 2010 and has been held in Kaoshiung, Taiwan since.
The Azkals has performed well in the tournament so far, finishing second last year and third in its inaugural staging. Veteran Ian Araneta clinched the Golden Boot Award for the tournament in 2010, while Chieffy Caligdong duplicated the feat in 2011.
The matches, however, would probably need to be played at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City as the Rizal Memorial Stadium would still undergoing renovation during that time.
The tournament is part of the Azkals’ preparations for the 2012 ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup in November, where they look to improve their surprising semifinal run two years ago.
