MANILA, Philippines – It's another first for Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao .
The fighting congressman has been tapped to appear in his first Hollywood movie, “Brass Knuckles,” with Fil-Am comedian Rob Schneider.
“We're going to start shooting next month right after Manny is done with his fight [with Timothy Bradley]. We're going to work with him then wrap up post-production in August, September and the film should hopefully be out by the end of the year,” movie producer Damian Perkins told ABS-CBN North America News Bureau.
The film also stars Academy Award winner Benecio del Toro and Mexican-born actor Jacob Vargas.
Pacquiao is no stranger in the movie industry since he already appeared in local films like Lisensyadong Kamao (Licensed Fist), Anak ng Kumander (Son of Commander) and Wapakman.
“Manny is also an actor, he enjoys acting. I've had the fortune and opportunity to sit down with him one-on-one at his home and talk to him about his script and talk to him about his,” said Perkins.
"Brass Knuckles" will be directed by Erick Geisler, a two-time Emmy Awards winner known for his work on ESPN’s Sports Science.
Drugs, gangsters
Perkins said Pacquiao will take a supporting role as a gangster, while Schneider will be his uncle.
Perkins was quick to point out that the film highlights the bad side of illegal drugs.
“The whole point of the movie is it really exploits and shows how and what a bad choice it is to be involved with drugs and just this whole world,” he said.
He assured that the Filipino boxer will get lots of speaking lines in the film.
“Manny's got a good role, we're actually going to bulk up the role a little bit for him as well. More lines for him.”
