MANILA, Philippines – Top Rank chief executive officer Bob Arum confirmed that no agreement has been reached for a potential rematch between Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto.

"We are nowhere near a final agreement for a rematch," Arum said in an interview with Boxing Scene.

It was reported last weekend that Cotto had agreed to the terms of a rematch against Pacquiao, but the boxer denied this, saying he has not made any decision for his next fight.

His manager, Gabriel Peñagarícano, said Cotto was being considered as a possible opponent for both Pacquiao and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Arum said he wants to meet with Cotto and his manager "to explore several options, and Pacquiao is one of them."

Another possible future opponent for Cotto is young Mexican star Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Arum said.

"If Chavez Jr. wins his fight on Feburary 4, it could be a possibility. Cotto wants to fight Chavez. He has said it on more than one occasion," he added.

Cotto is no longer contractually tied with Top Rank, becoming a free agent in December following his victory over Antonio Margarito.

Pacquiao defeated Cotto via a 12th round technical knockout when they first fought in 2009.
