Konz, Arum coming to Manila to discuss Pacquiao opponent

Manny Pacquiao’s trusted lieutenant is Manila-bound, bringing “neither good nor bad news.”

Canadian Mike Koncz told AKTV as he was inside the first class cabin of Philippine Airlines flight 103 from Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon that he will immediately sit down with the Filipino pound-for-pound king to discuss what lies ahead in 2012.

Koncz said even Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank is coming to Manila in the first week of January to hold talks with Pacquiao to map out plans for the new year.

The Floyd Mayweather fight is still up in the air and there are also plans to pit Pacquiao against Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico or Tim Bradley of the US. Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico is also being mentioned as a possible opponent.

In the event the Mayweather bout doesn’t materialize, Arum can still turn to either Marquez for a fourth fight or Bradley.

Marquez, who turns 39 in August next year, has sounded off that he is wishing to face Pacquiao again, while Bradley and Cotto are also making their presence felt.

Except for Mayweather, the two are under the promotional banner of Top Rank, making it easy for Arum to negotiate a deal.
