The police on Tuesday morning released a composite sketch of the suspect in the shooting of Talk ‘N Text center Ali Peek, who was attacked by an unknown gunman in Mandaluyong City on Monday night.
Authorities said witnesses described the suspect as chinito, standing 5’5″ to 5’6″ of medium build, about 32 to 36 years old.

Talk ‘N Text team owner Manuel V. Pangilinan has put up a P500,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, according to Tropang Texters coach Chot Reyes.

Mandaluyong police has set up a hotline for tips about the shooting, which can be reached at (02)5322145 or (02)5322797.

Peek was coming from a plyometric training session at the RFM Gymnasium in Pioneer Street when the unidentified assailant opened fire at him at the parking lot at around 7:30 p.m. Initial police reports describe the incident as a “robbery-shooting”.

After the shooting, Peek remained conscious and was even able to call up Reyes.

“The first person Ali called was my dad,” said Talk ‘N Text assistant Josh Reyes, son of Chot. “He was still able to call us and ask us to inform his auntie.”

The Filipino-American Peek is known to be close to his aunt’s family, with whom he moved in initially when he came to the country to join the PBA draft in 1998.

The younger Reyes added that Peek is in stable condition, even as a bullet remains lodged in his neck.

“The CT scan shows the bullet was millimeters away from [Peek's] spine, mandible, and other vital parts,” said Reyes. “Not sure yet if bullet will be too dangerous to remove. Possible na iwan na lang sa loob.”

Meanwhile, doctors are waiting for Peek’s immediate family to arrive from the United States.
