Next Pacquiao opponent to be discussed in December

Top Rank big boss Bob Arum will wait until the first week of December to start discussions regarding plans for Manny Pacquiao in 2012.

The Hall of Fame promoter has been batting for a fourth fight between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez owing to the controversial ending of their rubber match last November 12 in Las Vegas, but Arum said he hasn’t even raised the issue with the Filipino fighter.

Arum is still busy with the work connected to the December 3 slugfest between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto. After that fight, the Harvard-educated lawyer will start calling Pacquiao and the other parties involved.

Pacquiao just arrived in Manila and doesn’t want to talk about boxing for the meantime since he wants to focus the coming days and weeks to his other job as congressman of Sarangani.

Pacquiao would also be busy preparing for the celebration of his 33rd birthday in his home province on December 17 so it appears that nothing definite will be finalized within the next few weeks.

Marquez has not given a clear indication if he wants a fourth fight, contemplating retirement while stressing that he was robbed of a win again.

Pacquiao is not mandated to face him since he won the third fight. If Marquez had won, there would be an automatic rematch. Marquez is currently in Mexico City licking his wounds.

In an earlier interview with InterAKTV, Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz said Marquez and Floyd Mayweather are the only viable opponents for the Filipino champion
