Ali Peek does not need surgery or any further treatment

Talk ‘N Text center Ali Peek does not need to undergo surgery to remove a lodged bullet in his neck.

The news was confirmed by Talk ‘N Text team manager Aboy Castro, who gave an update on the status of the veteran PBA big man on Saturday. According to Dr. Gap Legaspi of Medical City, the exam revealed no arterial damage on Peek, and that the slug does not press on any artery.

Because of this, Legaspi said that Peek would no longer need any surgery. The 36-year-old also currently does not need any further treatment, he added, although monitoring is still necessary.

“The psychological and emotional recovery will be longer than the physical recovery,” said Legaspi. “If Ali can get back to normal activity soon, that is the true gauge of success.”

Peek is recovering after being shot last week in Mandaluyong City by a still-unidentified gunman. Castro earlier said that Mandaluyong police have formed a task force to review the case. Authorities are looking at a possible revenge angle for the shooting, which they described as premeditated, even as Peek said that he is “confused” as to why the incident happened.

In an exclusive interview with News5 three days after the incident, Peek was shown walking around normally, seemingly unaffected by injury except for a bandage that covered wrapped around his head. In the interview, he said that he’s not thinking about a return to the hardcourt yet.

Castro, meanwhile, relayed Talk ‘N Text management’s thanks to Peek’s doctors, including Legaspi, Gerard Agcaoili, and Benito Purugganan of Medical City, and Randy Lopa of Makati Medical Center.
