FIBA Asia U16 2011 : Energen Pilipinas gets top seed in next round

The Philippines marched into the second round of the 2nd FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship holding the top seeding in Group F in the 2nd FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship.

The Olsen Racela-mentored Pilipinas-Energen squad collected their second straight win after cruising to a 111-25 triumph over Vietnam Thursday night at the Khanh Hoa Sports Center in Nha Trang, Vietnam.

They will face Qatar on Saturday (October 22), Saudi Arabia on Sunday (October 23) and Japan on Monday (October 24). Pilipinas-Energen hopes to sweep their games to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.

The top two teams that emerge from the competition will qualify for the FIBA U17 World Championship in Lithuania in 2012.

Defensive clinic

Pilipinas-Energen held a defensive clinic against Vietnam, forcing their opponents to 37 turnovers. They also had 12 steals and 22 blocks.

National University Bullpup Paolo Rashleigh scored 20 points in the win while Filipino-American Jordan Timothy Heading and Ateneo Blue Eaglet Michael Jay Javelosa scored 17 and 16 each.
