NHA TRANG—The Energen Pilipinas Under-16 squad hit the floor running to dump Indonesia, 93-30, at the start of its campaign in the Fiba Asia U16 tournament Wednesday night at the Khanh Hoa Sports Center here in Vietnam.

Jay Alejandro unloaded a game-high 17 points as the Philippines took the Group D lead at 1-0 in the preliminary round of the 15-nation tournament.

The Philippines stormed out with a 23-6 start and widened the gap to 43 points in the second period, 54-11, following a 27-0 outburst.

Kyles Lao fired 15 points, while Isaac Go and Prince Rivero chipped in nine markers each.

“We’re expected to beat Indonesia, so we set goals before the game which is really to work on our defense and rebounding. We’re looking ahead,” said national youth coach Olsen Racela.
