Jeson Patrombon lost the momentum of a first-set win and absorbed a heart-breaking 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) loss to Frederico Ferreira Silva of Portugal in the first round of the US Open Juniors Sunday in New York.

The top Filipino junior player appeared on his way to the second round after a solid start.

But Silva slowly worked his way behind a solid serve and volley game to frustrate the 16th-ranked Patrombon.

The left-handed Silva had four aces and won 38 of 45 attempts on first serve for an 84 percent clip to dominate Patrombon, who only had one ace and made 40-of-58 on first serve for 69 percent.

Patrombon, a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open singles last January, and doubles partner Jaden Grinter of Australia open their campaign against Russians Asian Karatsev and Evgeny Karlovskiy in the opening round.
