Smart Gilas-Pilipinas beats Chinese-Taipei

Smart Gilas
Taipei, Taiwan - Two evenly matched teams went head to head Sunday Night on the 2nd day of the 2011 William Jones Cup. It was a game that the refs decided to call it tight. Resulting to tons of freethrows for the home team. But it did not matter as Smart Gilas - Pilipinas cruised to a 90-78 win.
Analysts and fans, like me, expected close game. It was early on. Until the Philippines pulled away at the half by 13 points. The aggressive defense of the Philippines once again held down its opponent at around 30% field goal shooting. Chinese Taipei, known for it's three point shooting, did not have much success from the three point distance. The only time that they threatened to wax hot from the outside was in the first quarter hitting 3 straight three pointers to give Chinese Taipei a 15-14 lead. After that, it was all Smart Gilas - Pilipinas. Marcus Douthit again unstoppable with 24 points. Japeth Aguilar delivered again with 12 points of his own. The shooting guards for the Philippines who did not have a good game yesterday delivered. Chris Tiu scored 8 points. Dondon Hontiveros scored 9 of his own and Marcio Lassiter also scored 8. It was a total team effort for our National Team who are now 2-0 to start the tournament.
The 6'8" center for Chinese Taipei, led his team with 14 points.
Tomorrow Philippines play another asian powerhouse, Jordan.

Box Score:

Philippines 90 - Douthit 23, Aguilar 12, Casio 10, Lassiter 9, Lutz 9, Hontiveros 9, Baracael 8, Tiu 8, Barroca 2, Taulava 0, Ababou 0.
