MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Dragon Boat Team arrived in Los Angeles Monday night en route to Florida, where they will compete in the bi-annual World Dragon Boat championships.
The team, known as the "Dragon Warriors," are 2-time defending world champions, having won the 200-m race in 2007 and 2009.
They are now aiming for a 3-peat.
"Napalaki ang chance naming manalo, dahil fully prepared na kami sa laro namin. Handang-handa na talaga," said team captain Sergeant Usman Anterola.
Aside from defending their title, the Dragon Warriors have their eyes on 5 gold medals, despite sending only half a team due to budget constraints.
"Napakalaki ng pressure sa amin, dahil alam namin na pinaghahandaan kami ng ibang team," Anterola said.
The World Dragon Boat championships will start on August 3.
